A cornerstone of the ScanSmart Screening CT program offered by Drs. Groover, Christie & Merritt is the requirement that all patients must have a referral, or prescription, from their physician. Unlike many of the independent centers offering screening CT services to the public, GCM wants to emphasize that this is a medical test. We believe that the decision as to whether an individual should undergo screening CT, and the choice of which types of tests are most appropriate, are best made by an individual in consultation with their personal physician.
Our board certified, fellowship-trained radiologists interpret every exam
and convey the results to the referring physician, who will then review the
results with the patient. This protocol makes certain the relationship between
primary physician and patient is maintained, and provides the best environment
for discussions regarding the significance of any findings, the need for
any additional testing, counseling, or lifestyle modifications.
